This series examines themes of urban decay and the passage of time. The light that filters through the doorways and windows of abandoned buildings is captured using long exposure. The void gestures toward an outside world that has continued to evolve, while these abandoned structures have remained idle and forgotten. Though it carries a dystopian quality, the void is not a negative presence. It represents a space for transformation and a space of possibility. The white light – containing all colours – symbolically represents infinite potential. It expresses that “the ruin is always dynamic and in process”, it is not stagnant but rather possesses a powerful potential for transformation (Dillon 2011, pp. 14)
